What Is Green Belt Ladies Park?

A Green Retreat Built Only for Women

Green Belt Ladies Park is a public park in Sharjah for women and young children only. It is located in Al Falaj area, next to Culture Square in the north-east of the city. It is named for the belt of trees and landscaping that encircles its property; often, the locals just refer to it as “Ladies Park.

Size, Setting and What Makes It Different

The total area of the park is 137,055 sq. m., which makes it one of the bigger green spaces in Sharjah. More than 200 trees, ornamental shrubs, and seasonal flower beds in a variety of garden sizes. The gym stations, open-air theatre, and all other facilities here are based on women’s privacy and comfort, unlike the mixed-gender parks in Sharjah.

A Quick Look at Why It Was Built

As a component of Sharjah’s broader initiative to provide women with dedicated green spaces for exercise and relaxation, this park was built to accommodate their needs. It is part of Sharjah’s parks network, which includes larger public parks like Sharjah National Park and Abu Shagara Park, but Green Belt is the only one constructed in the emirate with such a ladies-only model. All the design features within are dictated by that one focus, such as the arrangement of the walkways, the location of the prayer room, etc.

Who Can Visit Green Belt Ladies Park?

Entry Rules for Women and Children

Access is for women and girls of all ages. Boys under 7 are allowed inside with their mum/guardian; older boys and men are not allowed inside at any time. This is to be observed at the gate, and groups with older son(s) will require plans for that day.

ID and Access Requirements

Visitors are usually required to have a valid Emirates ID or passport, especially if the park is having a resident pass-in for that day. Sharjah parks sometimes operate on a free walk-in entry basis or annual pass system, so it’s a good idea to confirm the current entry system with a phone call before visiting for the first time.

Visiting With Family or in a Group

Daughters of any age are welcome along with their mothers, and weekday evenings are often filled with groups of friends or co-workers. For families with boys aged 7 and older, make a separate trip for the boys because the age is not on a case-by-case basis. This is also one of the simpler ways to find other women in the area, as the open-air theatre and community events regularly attract a mix of Emirati and expat visitors.

What Facilities Does Green Belt Ladies Park Offer?

The park offers more than just a neighborhood green space—including free fitness stations and an open-air theatre!

Fitness Stations and Walking Tracks

Free equipment at the park for exercising includes multi-stations in the park, labeled with instruction boards to allow visitors to exercise without a trainer. The grounds are dotted with paved walking and jogging paths, providing fitness enthusiasts with an appropriate path rather than just grass. Cardio and resistance exercises are the main emphasis at most stations as opposed to heavy machines, making them ideal for casual visitors but not for serious weightlifters. The equipment is set in the open shade and not in a closed gym, making mornings and evenings more comfortable than midday sessions.

Playgrounds and Sports Areas

There are a number of children’s playgrounds throughout the park for younger children. Light sports (e.g. badminton, skateboarding) are identified in separate zones to limit the use of walking areas and picnic lawns by ball games. Play equipment is scaled for children under 1,0 and there is softer flooring under the main play equipment. Parents generally remain in sight of the play area and do not leave children unattended. There is no separate staff provided to care for children.

Open-Air Theatre

One of the park’s highlights is the 250-seat open-air theatre, which offers outdoor entertainment and community gatherings during the cooler months. It’s one of just a handful of such facilities in a women-only park in the UAE. Sitting in tiers before a raised stage, shows are mostly held in the evening, when it’s cooler. Be sure to consult the park’s event notices or make a phone call, as there is no monthly schedule for performances.

Lake, Fountain and Prayer Room

Opposite the center of the park, there is a lake, which has a working fountain, but the water is not potable. Clean public restrooms are available, and a special prayer room exists for women. There are benches and shaded seating around portions of the lake – one of the more popular areas for a stroll or a quiet time out of the way during other activities.

Restaurants and Cafeteria

Hunger doesn’t have to put an end to the visit as there are two restaurants and a café inside the park. They are a convenient place to stop after a walk or workout session, without leaving the grounds. The menus focus on a more informal meal where customers are not expecting a sit-down experience, but rather a quick stop between walks and home.

Opening Hours

Day Timing
Saturday to Thursday 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Friday 8:00 AM – 10:00 PM

The hours may change a bit during Ramadan or during the summer months, so it would be helpful to call the park before you leave to find out.

Best Time of Day and Year to Visit

The most convenient times are in the early hours of the morning and the hour before sunset, particularly from May to September when the daytime heat is at its hottest in Sharjah. From mid-March into early April, people tend to flock in as the weather is mild enough for full-day picnics. Weekday mornings are also quieter than weekend afternoons, perfect for a stroll as opposed to a busy Friday evening.

How to Reach Green Belt Ladies Park?

By Car

The park is located on Sheikh Majid Bin Saqr Al Qasimi Street, Al Falaj, which is near Culture Square. Other neighborhoods in the vicinity, such as Al Riqa Suburb, Halwan, Al Heerah Suburb, Mughaidir Suburb, Muwafj, and Al Ramtha, are within a 2- to 7-minute drive. There is no parking in the car park, but there is room to park near the entry; it is not a car park.

By Public Bus

There are public buses from central Sharjah to Al Falaj, but specific bus numbers change regularly. Before heading out, it is best to find out on Sharjah RTA’s active bus guide or use a ride-hailing app, instead of a bus number.

The park is named in Google Maps and is recognized by most ride-hailing apps, allowing anyone to even find its way for the first time without knowing its smaller streets.

By Taxi

From most central areas in Sharjah, it takes about 10 to 15 minutes to reach the airport by taxi. Just tell the driver “Green Belt Ladies Park, Al Falaj; it’s a local landmark.

Getting Around Once You’re Inside

Once in the park, mobility is not a major concern, with flat paved pathways which are wide enough for wheelchairs and prams. Signs around the main access to the theatre, lake, and restaurant areas make it easy to navigate without having to refer to a map on your first visit.

When Is Green Belt Ladies Park Open?

What Are the Park Rules?

Green Belt has a somewhat standard rulebook, concerned with staying clean, remaining calm, and being suitable for the people who are permitted inside the park.

What’s Allowed

Grass picnic areas, fitness stations, badminton and skateboarding areas, and BBQ areas (only in park BBQ areas).

What’s Not Allowed

Avoid using cars, motorcycles, or bikes on the parkland. Football and cricket are only in designated zones. No pets, sharp objects, fireworks, smoking, vending on the streets, or sleeping within the park are permitted; litter must be put in the litter bins.

What Should You Know About Photography Inside the Park?

Green Belt is an all-female zone, so most visitors consider it their personal good manners not to photograph anywhere. Photographs of your own group, the lake, the gardens or the theatre are usually acceptable, but taking photographs of strangers without permission is poor etiquette in a park which values privacy.

When creating content for social media or a blog, it is beneficial to create it during a time of lower usage, such as early morning, and to avoid focusing on other visitors and concentrate on the scenery. Usually, for a particular angle of the theatre or the fountain area, staff are pleased to accommodate requests.

How Much Does It Cost to Enter Green Belt Ladies Park?

It is common for Sharjah residents to have an annual park pass to enter, and day visitors and tourists should check the entry fee with the park (some parks in Sharjah have an annual pass or switch between day entry and a pass system). Call the number in the Quick Facts table above, and there is no surprise at the gate.

General access parks like Al Talah Park, in Sharjah, charge about AED 15 per adult and AED 5 per child aged between 12-16 years, while children under 12 are admitted free of charge. Green Belt has always been a homeowner-pass model, so don’t take any quoted fees on the internet as gospel until they are verified at the gate.

How Does It Compare to Other Sharjah Parks?

There are plenty of parks in Sharjah, but few like Green Belt that are both large and accessible for women.

Green Belt Ladies Park vs Other Sharjah Parks

Park Access Approx. Size Signature Feature
Green Belt Ladies Park Women & boys ≤7 137,055 sqm Open-air theatre
Sharjah National Park General public ~630,000 sqm Duck pond & BBQ areas
Al Talah Park General public Small neighborhood park Family-friendly layout

In contrast, Al Talah Park is ideal for a quick visit to the neighborhood, whereas Sharjah National Park is bigger and open to everyone, making it more suitable for families. Green Belt is a park in its own class—one that was designed to be a space where women won’t be crowded out by men on the jogging track or gym stations.
